So, you are getting married in a couple of months and you do not have a clue on what to do with your hair! Do not worry, I am here to give you a few helpful tips to ease the stress. My name is Martine Saintval, international hair stylist and proud owner of Mon Cheri Hair design. Being born and raised in South Florida by Haitian parents has afforded me the exposure of multicultural hair designs. Although I graduated from University of Central Florida, my passion to create elegant art with different textured hair led me to put the degree on a shelf and pursue a license in Cosmetology. I’m currently thriving in the world of Trichology (the study of hair and scalp). Enough about me, my three stress free hair tips for you are centered around hair type, position, and length.

There are many factors to consider when choosing the right hairstyle, the first one is hair type. My first question to you would be, is your hair textured or straight? Textured hair consists of a hair strand with a shape that could be kinky, wavy, coiled, etc. Recognizing your hair type will play a major role in minimizing certain style selections. The next question you should ask yourself is, will I choose to alter my hair type? I have had many brides-to-be who were naturally kinky, but chose to style their hair textures with no heat. Great thing for them, I was able to work my magic and made their elegance my priority.  Whether you choose to keep your hair type or alter it with heat or chemicals, there is a style for you as long as your stylist is knowledgeable and experienced.

Hair type is one thing, how you wear it is another. If you ask me, that part is quite simple. Your hair will either go up or down, depending on the dress you will be wearing. The rule of thumb is your hair should complement the wedding dress, not compete with it. If your dress has a beautiful beading detail on the back, most likely your hair will be in an updo to showcase the detail on the back of your garment. Sleeveless dresses can be paired with long cascade flowy waves to give more of a dreamy romantic look. Again, I can’t stress the importance of either doing your research or hire a professional who will guide you in the right direction.

The last factor to consider when choosing an amazing hairstyle for your big day is whether or not the length and density of your hair will create the look you desire. A hairstyle that is short, will not require length but may require density. If you have chosen a hairstyle that has length, and your hair is shoulder length, no worries. Most, but not all, bridal hairstyles will require volume or length to be created. Hair extension is one of the key components in creating these beautiful looks. There are endless varieties to choose from, it is vital for you to have a clear idea of the style you want.
